The best known vineyard of Pommard is without any doubt the terroir of Rugiens producing wines for keeping.
Earthy, gamay, black fruit character, hints of undergrowth are the aromas that we find regularly in these wines. The wines need ageing in order to soften the tannins extracted during the vinification.
The deep red colour of the soil in this terroir is result of the presence of small iron elements and explains not only the tight structure of the wine but also the name Rugiens.
